Patent
Neutron absorbing element for control rod in nuclear reactor
Description
A gap is disposed between a long life type neutron absorber comprising an Hf metal or an alloy, or an Ag-In-Cd alloy and a cladding tube. Alternatively, the absorber is surrounded by a thin walled stainless sleeve, or an oxide membrane is formed on the surface thereof and it is contained in the cladding tube. With such a constitution, occurrence of stresses in the cladding tube due to swelling of the neutron absorber is considerably suppressed, to ensure reactor integrity. (T.M.)
