Simultaneous effects of gamma radiation and gravitational acceleration on the life span of imagoes of Callosobruchus analis (F.) (Col. Bruchidae)

Description

Adults of Callosobruchus analis (F.) (Col. Bruchidae) were submitted, 24-48 hours after emergence, to 2160 and 8635 times 'g' for 50, 100 and 200 minutes. All treatments were also irradiated at 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 kGY gamma radiation in a Cobalt 60 source, and results based on daily survival rate countings. The analysis of the results showed that at 0.1% confidence level, all factors (acceleration, time of acceleration and gamma radiation, to which the insects were submitted) were statiscally significant, both alone and/or in combination. However, when all the three factors were combined, the confidence level decreased to 5%. The correlation factor determined in the experiment ('tau') was 0.94, and the coefficient of variation 18.4%. Submeteram-se adultos de Callosobruchus analis (F.) (Col., Bruchidae), (24-48) h apos emergencia, a 2160 e 8635 vezes 'g' durante 50, 100 e 200 min.. Todos os tratamentos foram tambem irradiados com doses de 0,3, 0,6 e 0.9 kGY de radiacao gama numa fonte de Cobalto-60. Basearam-se os resultados nas contagens da taxa de sobrevivencia diaria. Analise dos resultados mostrou que para um nivel de confianca de 0,1%, todos os fatores (aceleracao, tempo de aceleracao e radiacao gama, aos quais os insetos foram submetidos) foram estatisticamente significantes, tanto isoladamente como em combinacao. Observou-se um decrescimo do nivel de confianca para 5% quando os tres fatores foram combinados. Determinou-se um fator de correlacao ('tau') na experiencia, de 0,94, sendo o coeficiente de variacao 18,4%. (M.A.)
