Standard method for measuring fast-neutron flux by radioactivation of sulfur

Creators

Description

A method is described for measuring fast-neutron flux by activation of a sulfur threshold detector. The reaction 32S(n,p)32P produces a β emitter having a 14.3 day half-life limits the measurements to irradiation times no greater than about 20 days. With suitable techniques, fission-neutron flux in the approximate range from 102 to 1012 neutrons/cm2.s can be measured
