Radiochemical scheme of carrier-free cadmium-109 preparation

Description

A method of extraction chromatography isolation, purification and concentration of microamounts of cadmium from concentrated solutions of silver is suggested. The method employs petroleum sulfides and tri-n-actyl-amine as stationary organic phases. The Ag and Cd distribution coefficients as a function of the extragent concentration (extraction from 0.5M HNO3), the maximum capacity of the sulfide used with respect to Cd and the dependence of distribution coefficients on HNO3 concentration have been studied. It is shown that silver as a macrocomponent in concentrations from 10-5 to 3M, when being extracted into the organic phase, does not affect the coefficient of Cd distribution. The method has been used to isolate 109Cd without a carrier from highly active silver targets after deuton or proton irradiation
