X-ray diffraction study of crystalline barium titanate ceramics

Description
Full-text: BaTiO3 ceramics have been prepared via solid-state reaction method. The powders were calcined for 2 hours at different temperature ranging from 800 to 1200 degree Celsius. Using X-ray diffraction with a Rietveld refinement technique, the phase formation and crystal structure of the BaTiO3 powders were studied. It was found that the formation of single phase BaTiO3 with a tetragonal structure beganat calcination temperature of 1000 degree Celsius. Powders calcined at 800 degree Celsius revealed the presence of BaTiO3 as the major phase along with some weak peaks due to BaCO3. Crystallite size and tetragonality of BaTiO3 powders were found to increase with increasing calcination temperature. (author)
