Description
Highlights: • PS pretreatment at pH 12 increases carboxyl functional groups on GAC surface. • PS pretreatment not only enhances metal impregnation but also reduces Fe dissolution. • Hydroperoxide anion in changing the oxygen-containing functional groups is discussed. • PS-treated GAC impregnated with Mn followed by Fe (GACPMF) is selected. • As(V) adsorption capacity of GACPMF is 9.52 mg g−1.
