Extraction of trace Am(III) and Ln(III) with di(2-ethylhexyl)mono(di) thiophosphoric(phosphinic) acid

Description
The extractants, such as di (2-ethylhexyl) dithiophosphoric acid (DEHDTP), di(2-ethylhexyl) monothiophosphoric acid (DEHMTP) or di (2-ethylhexyl) monothiophosphinic acid (DEHMTPI) containing softer donor S atom in xylene solution, are used for the extraction of Am3+ and Ln3+. The order of the extractability of Am3+ and lanthanide metal ions by these extractants is DEHMTPI>DEHMTP>DEHDTP. The order of extraction selectivity of Am3+ is DEHDTP>DEHMTPI>DEHMTP. The results show that Am3+ is 'softer' hard-acid than Ln3+
