NMR studies of hydrogen in metals and hydrides at very high temperatures

Description
The results of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies at very high temperatures (up to 1000deg C) on two classes of hydrogen-containing metallic systems - the Group III and IV transition metal dihydrides and the Group III and V metal solid solution phases - are summarized. Anomalous behavior of the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate has been found in all these systems at temperatures above ≅ 600 K. Various possible origins of the anomaly are reviewed, and its similarity to behavior found in fast-ion conductors is noted. (orig.)
