Denmark as wind power hub - between reality and possibility

Globally the prospects for the wind power market are favourable. Wind power is the world's fastest growing renewable energy resource, and more and more countries accept wind power as equal to other energy technologies. Denmark has so far been in the lead as to developing a wind power industry, partly because the Danish wind power industry and their sub-contractors were among the first to deliver reliable turbines, and partly because they stayed in the lead as far as development of new and bigger turbines was concerned. Paradoxically, a consequence of the favourable prospects is that the Danish wind power industry and their sub-contractors find themselves in a tougher competitive situation compared to earlier, as a number of the market's rules have changed or are changing. The competition within the sector has strengthened due to the arrival of a number of global actors. Therefore Danish wind power actors must get ready to find a new foothold. This report aims at inspiring the Danish wind power industry to discuss and handle some of the future challenges. (BA)
