Influence of 3d-element on the value of magnetoelastic interaction in rare earth compounds. Investigation into GdCosub(2-x)Alsub(x) system

Description
X-ray method in the temperature range of 5.5...700 K has been used to investigate isotropic and anisotropic magnetoelastic interactions in the system of GdCosub(2-x)Alsub(x) intermetallic compounds. It is shown that GdCO2 magnetovolumetric anomalies, caused by splitting of d-zone, disappear, mainly at cobalt disordering (x approximately 1.0), whereas the large anisotropic magnetostriction (in GdCO2 lambda100=-1.2x10-3 at 5.5 K) is observed only in narrow concentration range 0 <= x <= 0.1. It is proposed that localized states, possessing significant anisotropy and sensitive to low quantities of admixture are present in d-zone of GdCO2
