Description

The generation of electron zonal flows (EZFs) by electron drift modes (EDMs) in a nonuniform magnetoplasma is considered. The guiding center electron drifts are then used to derive a system of coupled mode equations for the EZFs and the EDMs. The mode coupling equations are Fourier analyzed to obtain a nonlinear dispersion relation, which exhibits the excitation of the EZFs by the Reynolds stress of the EDMs. The growth rate of the parametrically driven EZFs is obtained. Enhanced EZFs can control the cross-field electron transport in an inhomogeneous magnetoplasma
