Isotope production and application in Czechoslovakia

The research and development of new radioactive preparations, their production, distribution, and the methodological control of their applications fall under the responsibilities of institutes controlled by the Czechoslovak Atomic Energy Commission. The Institute of Research, Production and Application of Radioisotopes is responsible for the development and production of organic labelled compounds, sealed sources, radioactivity standards, part of the range of RIA kits, and also personnel dosimetry services, tracer techniques, the distribution and inventory of radioactive materials, the collection and burial of radioactive wastes outside the nuclear plants. The Nuclear Research Institute is responsible for an extensive power research programme and in addition, it produces some basic radioactive materials using the WWR-S research reactor and the U-120 M cyclotron. The Institute of Radioecology and Nuclear Technology Applications is responsible for the development and production of radioimmunoassay kits for wide uses in both human and veterinary medicine and in food hygiene. Studies made in these institutes are described, centering on organic labelled compounds, radiopharmaceuticals, RIA kits, production of radiation sources, radionuclide standards, radiation technologies in Czechoslovak national economy, and tracer techniques.
