Study of elastic and inelastic neutron scattering in the 5-8 MeV energy range

Description
The neutron spectrometer permitting to study elastic and inelastic fast neutron scattering using the time-of-flight method is described. The main parameters of the spectrometer, the measurement methods of the neutron scattering cross sections and experimental data processing are presented. To illustrate the spectrometer possibilities the inelastic neutron scattering cross sections at the 4.91 MeV on natural molybdenum are compared with the data of the paper, in which the continuous spectrum is measured depending on the 1.26 MeV excitation energy. Good agreement of the cross sections confirms the validity of the above experimental method and correctness of accountancy of all the factors during data processing
