Description
A theory is proposed to derive the binding and formation volumes of solute atom clusters from the pressure effect on multiple relaxation processes found in an elastic after-effect study. The theory is applied to the Nb-0.70 at %O system previously studied. A small binding volume of 0.2 +- 0.2 cm/sup 3//mol per O atom is obtained for all O clusters present. The formation volume of single O atoms is calculated to be 3.85 +- 0.1 cm/sup 3//mol by combining the binding volume and X-ray data of Taylor and Doyle
