Are fractional charges and Dirac monopoles consistent with quantum mechanics
Description
The Dirac quantization condition and its extension to grand unified theories are reviewed in the context of possible recent evidence for monopoles and for fractional charges. The existence of monopoles rules out several previous theoretical explanations of fractional charges and provides strong constraints on alternative explanations. (author)
