Comparison of the 1-2-3 phase and the 3-3-6 phase in the La-Ba-Cu-O superconductor series

  • 1. Dept. of Physics, Ohio State Univ., Columbus, OH (USA)

Description

The La/sub 1/Ba/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 9-δ/ (1-2-3) and La/sub 3-x/Ba/sub 3+x/Cu/sub 6/O/sub 14+y/ (3-3-6) phases are correlated to the variation in T/sub c/ in the La-Ba-Cu-O series. These phases are both oxygen deficient perovskites of the form ABO/sub 3-δ/. From x-ray diffraction the two phases are nearly indistinguishable due to the similar scattering powers of the isoelectronic La/sup +3/ and Ba/sup +2/ ins and the low scattering power of the O atoms. The major difference between them is the La-Ba ratio and the oxygen occupancy conditions. The implications of the similarities and differences of these phases is also discussed
