The quest for realistic superstring solutions

Creators

Description

This paper reports on four-dimensional superstring solutions which are obtained by replacing six of the ten dimensions by suitable internal degrees of freedom. It is more meaningful to interpret these degrees of freedom as a conformal field theory rather than as a geometric structure. Various possibilities, including Gepner's proposal for using N = 2 minimal models are sketched. The conclusion discusses the prospects for understanding the vanishing of the cosmological constant and for making contact with experiment
