Influence of nearest neighbourhood on valency of Ce ions in compounds of RNi5 and RNi types

Description
For Ce1-xRxNi5 and Ce1-xRxNi (R = Pr, Y, La) compounds a study was made into the influence of the distance to the nearest Ni ions from cerium ones on Ce valency. Also investigated are the effects of cerium substitution for other rare earths or yttrium. Nonmonotonous variation of lattice parameters is revealed in Ce1-xYxNi at x > 0.4 that related to cerium valency change. Cerium valency is found to decrease with an increase of the distance to Ni ions. The interaction of f-electrons with Ni ions. The interaction of f-electrons with Ni ions plays a determining role in electron spectrum formation. 12 refs.,6 figs
