Investigation of the source term resulting from direct explosive violation of an irradiated fuel shipping cask

  • 1. Battelle Columbus Lab, Ohio

Description

A current U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) research program is described whose objective is to establish the consequences of postulated terrorist attacks on spent fuel shipping casks. In one project within this program, a laboratory scale experimental investigation is being conducted to determine a bounding estimate of the radiological source term resulting from a specified shaped charge attack on a spent fuel shipping cask. 2 refs
