Relative efficiency of attenuation correction algorithms for emission tomography: results from simulated data

Description

The purpose of this work was the implementation of several approximated methods for attenuation correction and the study of their relative efficiency, in terms of resolution and contrast parameters. From the results obtained, two important remarks can be drawn: whatever is the attenuation correction method used, the spatial resolution is only affected by the filter; even if not perfect, the use of correction by the average geometric factor would be recommended for quantitative study, as the reconstructed contrast of defect is independent of the position in the attenuator
