A new MHD equlibrium describing a pure z-pinch
Description
A new, fully analytical, MHD equilibrium describing a z-pinch without axial magnetic field is found. First, an equation for the quantity circular integraldl/B is derived, and then the new equilibrium is obtained as a special solution to this non-linear equation. The current and pressure profiles are everywhere smooth, and they exhibit a more well-defined boundary than those of the Bennett equilibrium do. (orig.)
