Assessment Of Inconel 617 Alloy Tested By Heat-Cycling

  • 1. Institute for Nuclear Research, Pitesti, (Romania)

Description

This paper investigated 617 Alloy after some heat-cycling tests. Others common trade names for Alloy 617: Haynes® 617, Inconel® 617 (UNS N06617). The paper continues prior tests realized in INR Piteşti concerning utilization of nickel alloys in the heat exchangers and steam generators construction for new nuclear reactors concepts. The thermal cycling consists in heating-cooling successive with some rates in a range temperature. Technical parameters of thermal cycling: 50 & 200 cycles, 25 C°/minute heating-cooling rate, 450-1000°C temperature range, and argon working medium. The analysis consisted in microstructure examination, Vickers microhardness, and traction tests. The average grain size was determined automatically by planimetric method. The microhardness was calculated by the relationship of the device book. Tensile-strength and elongation were determined on the traction diagrams. The tested samples were compared with "as received" material. The results showed a good metallographic and mechanical behaviour of Inconel 617 alloy at these thermal-cycling tests. (author).
