The proposed Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository Program: A perspective from local government
Description
The relationship between the development of the nuclear waste repository program and the concerns of local government are discussed in this paper. From the perspective of Las Vegas and Clark County, the most important issue is the transportation of the material and the utilization of certain routing schemes which could conceivably impact population and economic centers. A prime concern is the sensitivity of the Department of Energy (DOE) to local conditions and urban characteristics. Recommendations are made to begin to ameliorate these concerns
