Modification of radiosensitivity in the liver by 2-mercaptopropionylglycine (MPG): a quantitative evaluation

Description
Adult Swiss albino mice were exposed to 194 mC/kg of gamma radiation in the presence (experimental) and absence (control) of MPG. The behavior in the change of abnormal and binucleate cells was studied at various post-irradiation times. The percentage of abnormal cells increased in both the groups, but it was lesser in the MPG-treated animals and the recovery also took place earlier. A biphasic increase in binucleate cells was observed in the control group, whereas in the MPG-treated animals the percentage increased at earlier intervals only. (author)
