Investigation of gamma background in in-beam measurement with α-particles from the cyclotron
Description
A spectrum of gamma background has been investigated when in-beam measurement was performed with α-particles from the 1.2 m cyclotron. Prominent peaks in the spectrum have been identified. These peaks result from inelastic neutron excitation of germanium isotopes in Ge(Li) detector and neutron reactions on these isotopes, as well as from reactions of incident α-particles in slit, collimator and beam collector. Method reducing the background has been discussed
