Description
The results on mechanical and frictional properties of high-speed steels R6M5, Y-10, and 6x4M2FS exposed to high power ion beams are presented. It is revealed that the friction coefficient decreases in a modified layer of 150 to 200 μm thickness. The total modified layer may be conventionally subdivided into three regions which differ in defect concentration, type of defects, and residual stresses. The wear resistance of irradiated tools is found to increase after applying optimum regimes. (author)
