Application of LaBr3 detector in prompt gamma neutron activation analysis

  • 1. Northwest Institute of Nuclear Technology (NINT), Xi'an (China)

Description

A Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA) system with a LaBr3 detector was built at the no.1 radial beam port of Xi'an Pulsed Reactor. This system was designed to test the feasibility of the application of LaBr3 detector in nuclide identification using PGNAA method. The prompt gamma spectrum of a sample irradiated by neutron beams was measured. The results were analyzed by a self-developed program, and the nuclides (35Cl, 159La, 1H, 207Pb, 63Cu and 56Fe) in the sample were identified. It indicates that the LaBr3 detector can be expected to do material inspection using PGNAA method in further application. (author)
