Copper thiomolybdates: an electrometric study
Description
The course of reaction between Cu2+ and different thiomolybdate anions (MoS2-4, Mo4S6-15, Mo2S2-13) has been followed by means of pH and conductometric titrations at different pH ranges in aqueous and aqueous-ethanolic media, with each of the reagents alternately used as the titrant. The sharp inflections in the titration curves provide evidence for the formation and precipitation of CuS.MoS3, 3 CuS.4MoS3 and CuS.2MoS3 around pH 7.2, 5.9 and 4.3, respectively. The titrations of the copper salt with Na2S.4MoS3 failed to provide any dependable results for the formation of the corresponding copper thiomolybdate, CuS.4MoS3. The precipitates obtained at the end-points are also analysed gravimetrically. The analytical results support those obtained by the electrometric methods. (C.L.B.)

O curso da reacao entre Cu2+ e diferentes anions tiomolibdato (MoS2-4, Mo4S6-15 e Mo2S2-13) foi acompanhado atraves de medidas de pH e de titulacoes condutometricas para diversas faixas de pH em meios aquoso e aquoso-etanolico, utilizando-se cada reagente, alternadamente, como titrante. As pronunciadas inflexoes nas curvas de titulacao evidenciam a formacao e precipitacao de CuS.MoS3, 3 CuS.4MoS3 e CuS.2MoS3, respectivamente em pH 7,2, 5,9 e 4,3. As titulacoes do sal de cobre com Na2S.4MoS3 nao demonstraram a formacao do tiomolibdato de cobre CuS.4MoS3. Os precipitados obtidos nos pontos finais das titulacoes foram, ainda analisados por gravimetria. Os resultados analiticos confirmaram os obtidos por metodos eletrometricos.
