Description
The study of molybdenum disulphide (powder with particle size 1-10 μm and specific surface 5.9 m2/g) surface properties and its chemical interactions with some gases (O2, NO) and water vapors has been carried out. MoS2 annealing at 900 deg C in vacuum is shown to lead to an increase of specific surface and particle segregation but it facilitates the redistribution of sulphur atoms between (001) and (101) planes though it doesn't change its crystal structure. MoS2 oxidation process is established to proceed through a number of intermediate molybdenum oxides, Mo2O3 and MoO2 specifically, until MoO3 is formed. Water and NO adsorption on MoS2 surface is found out to be followed by dissociation, white hydrogen an nitrogen return to αs phase and oxygen diffuses in the volume of the crystal and occupies the sulphur vacancy
