Electrochemical reduction of GdCl3 to Gd2Cl3 in the melt
Description
The cluster Gd2Cl3 forms on electrolysis of GdCl3 melt at 903 K. The yield is ∼ 70% with respect to current. About 40% of the Gd transfers to the cluster. Gadolinium could not be quantitatively reduced to Gd2Cl3 owing to the electrical conductivity of the cluster formed
