A radon exhalation monitor

  • 1. Centre d'Etude de l'Energie Nucleaire, Brussels (Belgium)

Description

A radon exhalation monitor has been constructed and calibrated. The monitor is based on the adsorption of radon by active charcoal and the subsequent measurement of its γ activity by means of high resolution γ spectrometry. Exhalation rates may be determined with an accuracy of better than 20% within 48 h after exposure. The detection limit is estimated on the basis of counting statistics to about 0.1 mBq.m-2s-1.
