Description

The x-ray crystal structures of triphenyltin (I) and trimethyltin (II) 4-nitrothiophenolates are reported. Crystals of I and II are monoclinic. For I, a=14.332(3), b=7.765(6), and c=20.724(8) A; β=109.22(3) deg.; Z=4; sp. gr. P21/c; and R=0.037 for 2568 reflections. For II, a=19.032(5), b=7.105(7), and c=20.096(5) A; β=113.43(2) deg.; Z=8; sp. gr. P21/c; and R=0.042 for 2416 reflections. The structure of I is built by discrete molecules, whereas in the structure of II, secondary Sn--O bonds (3.17 and 3.45 A) link molecules into infinite chains. Comparison of geometric parameters of I and II indicates a noticeable contribution of a quinoid form into the structure of II
