Influence of continuous cooling on the structure of U-Nb alloy with low content of niobium

  • 1. Institute of Nuclear Sciences Boris Kidric, Vinca, Beograd (Yugoslavia)

Description

Changes in uranium alloys with 0.5, 1 and 1.8 wt % of Nb were examined. Under conditions of lower cooling rates (up to 15 deg C) the gamma solid solution is transformed into alpha-gamma phase in the alloys with 1 - 1.8% of Nb. At higher cooling rates diffusion decomposition is prevented and martensitic aphaa phase is created. From the cooling curves, metallography and x-ray studies it can be concluded that the martensitic alphaa phase is created by shear from beta phase

Abstract (Serbian)

Ispitane su promene kod legura uranijuma sa 0.5 1 i 1.8 tez./o Nb. Pri manjim brzinama hladjenja (do oko 15 Celzijusovih stepeni/sek) se gama-cvrsti rastvor razlaze na lamelarnu alfa+gama fazu u legurama sa 1-1.8% Nb. Pri brzinama iznad 15 Celzijusovih stepeni/sek sprecava se difuziono razlaganje u lamelarni produkat i nastaje martenzitska alfaa faza. Na osnovu krivih hladjenja, metalografskih i rentgenografskih ispitivanja moze se zakljuciti da martenzitska alfaa faza nastaje smicanjem iz beta faze (author)
