On the differential rotation of solar background magnetic fields. 1
Description
Some of the questions concerning the possible existence of torsional waves with the wave number k = 1/hemisphere (first described by LaBonte and Howard in 1982) are discussed with regard to the differential rotation of solar background magnetic fields studied with the use of the time series derived from synoptic Hα-maps published by McIntosh. It is proved that the time variations of the latitude gradients B/A and C/A (A, B and C are the coefficients which occur in the relation for the differential rotation) can be interpreted as the type of torsional waves mentioned above, and that the results obtained agree relatively well with the results of the above authors
