Present activity and future plans at Fermilab
Description
The author summarizes the critical path for getting the machinery on this fall completion of the interaction hall at D-zero and the erection of shielding walls so that the assembly hall can continue to be constructed. This is on schedule. The overpass takes the main ring and loops up 20 feet and around the CEF detector. The main ring, accelerates from 8 GeV to 150 GeV. The basic scheme of the p-bar source is that the main ring accelerates to 120 GeV, then the beam is extracted and delivered to the p-bar target. Antiprotons are produced, focused, and injected into the two concentric storage rings where they are cooled and accumulated for some hours. They are then injected back into the main ring now orbiting in a sense opposite to protons. They are accelerated to 150 GeV and transferred to the Tevatron and accelerated along with protons to high energy. The energy has to go to 900 GeV. Lots of work is to be done on the booster, and the fixed target beam lines and experiments are being completed and made ready for beam. CDF is complete, in the sense that any detector is ever complete, by November of 1987. It is expected on December 1st to begin high energy physics, starting with pp-bar collisions, hopefully at 1.8 GeV, for approximately three months
