Heat treatment effect on mechanical properties of WC-Hadfield steel hard alloy

Description

Aimed to obtain optimum combination of mechanical properties in a hard alloy consisting of steel type 110G13 with 70 % WC an investigation has been carried out into appropriate heat treatment conditions. Sintered material has been heated in molten salts up to 1370-1570 K and then quenched in a saltpeter bath. Microstructural and X-ray diffraction analyses show that the most favourable structure results in specimens-quenched from 1400-1470 K. In this case compression strength and ultimate strain of hard alloy are maximum. 5 refs.; 4 figs
