Scale effect in aluminium alloys after neutron irradiation

Description

Two trade marks of aluminium alloys (Al + 0.9% Mg + 0.8% Cu and Al +2.4 % Mg + 0.3 % Cu) have been studied. Samples have forms: bar (40x5x5 cm); rod (l=40 mm, d=5 mm); disk (h=3 mm, d=15 mm). Different form of samples were taken for revealing of dependence of linear sizes changing from both the sample form and the neutron fluence. Neutron irradiation has been carried out in reactor core (WWR-SM) in aluminium capsules. Samples were irradiated up to fluences 1.3·1018; 1.5·1019; 1.2·1020 n/cm2 at 100 deg C. In case small linear sizes a material is changing in swelling field independently from impurity contents at that practically in all samples maximum field fall at fluence 1.3·1018 n/cm2, and field of minimum of linear sizes changing is revealing at 1.5·1019 n/cm2. Thought maximum of rod has not observed, seemingly one can to suppose that it shifted in 1.5·1019-1.2·1020 n/cm2. Spread in values of linear size is the greatest under small sizes, with increasing of samples size spread is reducing and make up not more 0.5% within whole range of irradiation fluence
