Description

Publishing has been regarded by the IAEA as an indispensable part of its technology transfer activities since the early days of its existence. The subject areas covered by IAEA publications are determined by the content of the IAEA's overall programme. Since nuclear techniques are widely used in many branches of science and technology, publications cover not only those subjects connected directly with nuclear power generation, such as nuclear reactors, safeguards, nuclear and radiological safety and radioactive waste management, but also a range of other disciplines, including geology, medicine, agriculture and hydrology. The extent of the IAEA publications programme may be judged form the fact that the annual output is of the order of 50,000 pages, comprising nearly 200 separate titles and journal issues. These publications are made available to readers throughout the world, with some titles appearing in five languages. As is the practice in most of the organizations of the United Nations system, a policy of mixed free distribution and commercial sales is followed, the proportions depending on the type of publication and the intended audience. 3 figs, 2 tabs
