Kinetics of free radical decay in irradiated L-leucine

  • 1. Baylor Univ., Waco, TX

Description

The kinetics of the decay of the free radicals produced in crystalline L-leucine by γ-irradiation at 77 K have been studied at temperatures form 50 to 900C. In the first few minutes of the decay some of the ESR spectral peaks increase in intensity while the total moment of the spectra decreases. Hydrogen gas significantly increases the rate of decay while argon seems to decrease it slightly. The decay data can be accurately interpreted in terms of the diffusion-controlled second-order rate equation of Waite
