Top quark physics at the Tevatron

Description
After a brief overview of top quark physics at the Tevatron collider in Run I, we discuss upgrades of the CDF and DOe detectors for Tevatron Run II which started in Spring of 2001. We present the first preliminary Run II results on the production of W/Z bosons + jets, which constitute the dominant background to top quark production. Preliminary estimates of the detector performances relevant to b-tagging are presented
