Analysis of two-dimensional fluctuations using singular value decomposition

Description
The use of singular value decomposition (SVD) as a tool to study fluctuations in toroidal plasmas is discussed. When those plasmas are observed tangentially, rotations of perturbed structures can easily be identified and their mode structure can be investigated by use of the SVD method. Data from the tangentially viewing soft X-ray camera on LHD are compared with simulated images. (orig.)
