Preparation and characterization of the hybrid film from octa(3-ammoniumpropyl) silsesquioxane

Description

In this work, hybrid nanoparticles octa(3-chloroammoniumpropyl)silsesquioxane (POSS-NH3Cl) were synthesized through acid hydrolysis and condensation reactions, and then subjected to ion exchange for times of 2 h and 12 h for the removal of chloride ions. The hybrid films were obtained by 'dip coating' from a solution of octa(3-ammoniumpropyl)silsesquioxane (POSS-NH2) and methanol. The presence of the band at 1100 cm-1 in the infrared spectra (FTIR) confirms the formation of the oligomeric polyhedral silsesquioxane (POSS). The titrametric analysis showed that ion exchange occurred partially remaining chlorine ions in the structure. In the nuclear magnetic resonance analysis (29Si NMR) revealed a peak at -67.9 ppm to POSS-NH3Cl and a peak at -68.8 ppm to the sample after the ion exchange. POSS-NH2 nanoparticles can self-assembly by electrostatic attractions forming hybrid films which have a high degree of hydrophilicity. (author)
