Description

An analytical method for optimizing the absorbed dose distribution around a stepping source used in gynaecological brachytherapy has been developed for implementation in the planning procedure of intracavitary treatments with a high dose-rate afterloading technique. The absorbed dose is specified at a set of points on the surface of the target volume, the optimization points. These specified values are, together with the dose rate contributions to the same points from sources at certain positions, collected in different matrices. Through inversion of the dose rate matrix the optimal dwell-times for the sources at the different positions are obtained. 6 refs.; 2 figs.; 2 tabs
