Limiting, surveillance and control of radioactive effluents in Spanish Nuclear Power Plants

  • 1. Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear, Madrid (Spain)

Description

The Spanish regulations set up the conditions to be met by the releases of radioactive effluents to satisfy the ALARA principle. In order to comply with those requirements, the Operation Permits of the Nuclear Power Plants include Limits and Conditions in the Technical Specifications. The Spanish Nuclear Power Plants were licensed over a span of twenty years, causing a diversity in the limitation, surveillance and control of effluents that demanded the standardization of the radiological effluents technical specifications. This paper summarizes the main issues and results of the standardization process, carried in two stages. In the first stage a standard technical specifications have been implemented in all nuclear power plants; they contain the RADIOLOGICAL EFFLUENTS CONTROL PROGRAMS; where the discharge limits and the monitoring instrumentation and treatment systems requirements are laid down; the procedural details of the Control Programs are further developed in the OFF SITE DOSE CALCULATION MANUALS. In the second stage, already in process, the new recommendations of ICRP will be implemented. (Author) 14 refs
