Recent lattice location results for implanted impurities in beryllium metal

  • 1. Bell Labs., Murray Hill, N.J. (USA)

Description

The lattice location of room temperature implanted Tl, Pb, Bi, Ga, W and Os in Be-metal crystals has been studied using the Rutherford scattering-channeling method with 1.9 MeV 4He+ beams. Tl, Pb, Bi and Ga were found to occupy lattice sites near the ideal octahedral interstitial site in the hcp-Be lattice. For Bi and for Ga a second site cannot be excluded. W could be located in the tetrahedral interstitial cage close to the ideal tetrahedral site. Os shows a quite different behavior being slightly displaced from a substitutional site in the direction of the c-axis. (Auth.)
