The orbiting-cluster model revisited: Resonance predictions in the medium mass range

Description
The orbiting-cluster model of heavy-ion resonances is modified in the framework of Feshbach's doorway concept. A new parametrization, based on recent experimental data, is used. The modified model is applied to systems in the composite mass range A≤110. Resonant behavior, hitherto unobserved, is predicted for several projectile-target combinations leading to composite systems with closed neutron or proton g9/2 shells. Also, the experimentally observed absence of resonant behavior is explained for several systems in the same mass range. copyright 1989 Academic Press, Inc
