Light of the supernovae
Description
A fluorescent theory of supernova light is proposed. The initial release of energy following the supernova explosion is presumed to be in the form of ultraviolet radiation. The radiation excites the expanding gaseous shell which fluoresces, emitting visible radiation. Geometrical calculations reveal that a supernova spectrum is the result of light emitted from the surface of an ellipsoid. The supernova of 1972 is used to test the theory
