Comparison of different methods of calculating stopping powers for heavy ions

The existing two methods for determining the stopping power principally different from each other are briefly described. The stopping power values of Makrofol and cellulose nitrate obtained with both methods are compared. The deviations of the values from each other as well as potential causes of this disagreement are discussed. A definitive valuation of the two methods, however, is meaningful only if the ranges obtained by different procedures are included in the comparison. (author)
