Opinion n. 2010-AV-0084 of the Nuclear Safety Authority on the 5. of January 2010 on the Agence Nationale de gestion des Dechets Radioactifs (ANDRA) file related to the proposition of an area of interest for a thorough survey and of scenarios of surface implanting for a reversible storage in deep geological formation

After having recalled the legal context, this document confirms the validity of investigations previously performed in 2005 by the ANDRA (the French National Agency for the management of radioactive wastes) about the feasibility of a geological storage of high- and medium-activity and long life wastes in a clay formation. It also confirms the ANDRA's choice for an area of interest for a thorough survey aimed at storing radioactive wastes in a deep geological formation. An appendix reports comments by the ASN on works related to the geological characterization of the first area, named transposition area.
