High-power proton linear accelerator for the APT project
Description
The neutron source for the accelerator production of tritium (APT) is driven by a medium-energy high-power proton linear accelerator (linac) that produces a 130-MW beam with 100% duty factor. This is the performance specification for nominal tritium production capability in the APT plant. To support increased tritium production, the linac must be upgradable to a beam power of 170 MW. Two accelerator designs are currently under consideration
